As Saturn enters Leo in the summer of 2005, you may be feeling very proud of your abilities. And if you are in the position to exert your executive authority or have inalienable control over others, exerting your power in dictatorial ways can turn a leader into a tyrant. Over the next few years you may be obsessed with your professional career growth, and find pursuing your career goals more enjoyable than going out and having pointless fun. You want an agenda, a purpose, even for your leisure pastimes, which you will also take more seriously. If you do have talent, expect it to be criticized to the bone, and you can also be your own worst judge and restrict your creative ability by not sharing if you think you are shy of perfection.

So what's the INTENSE and relentless focus on perfection and ambition really covering up? Defensiveness. The more you insist and demand, the more you are being defensive and detaching from direct feeling or participating, and trying to hide an ego that is scared of not measuring up, not being good enough, which can show even more if you let your guard down. It's business and opening your heart to anything can feel threatening. If you are so defensive that you withhold your love, this transit of Saturn can block your outward flow of love to the extent that it breaks your heart, and can even result in a physical blockage in your heart.

Saturn in Leo is in what is called its DETRIMENT. This is because Saturn rules Aquarius, the sign opposite Leo, and in Leo, Saturn works against its own best interests-- especially when maintaining POWER is at stake. In LEO, Saturn is dignified, regal, and looks out at the crowd from a higher regal stance. Pomp and royal splendor can surround major leaders as they sit on their thrones, safe within their conservative positions, and secure behind their status, masks, and costumes. Yet, all the regal splendor can be concealing the true personality and leaders may really feel like small children behind the mask of leadership, unable to truly connect and insensitive to the feelings of individuals, caught up in seeing the outer superficial reality, but not able to build from their heart or true inner center or love, because they are limited and constrained by the image they project to the public and are busy playing the role. Saturn in Leo is all about the show and setting the stage, while the heart is engaged only as a prop.

*Saturn and Neptune: a long-term look ahead: new UPDATE 10-30-04

As Saturn and Neptune move slowly toward an opposition (August 2006) the quincunx from Saturn to Neptune has turned into a quindectile that will perfect on July 28, 2005. Don't expect society's leaders to be openly honest during this time. It is more likely that they will spin the story they want you to hear, confusion being a goal. As old, stable social structures and long-held beliefs seem to crumble and disintegrate before your eyes, it can be hard to tell what to hang on to or where things are headed. Whether it's a real authority figure or one you invented in your own mind, you may question their authority, question the hype, or just believe it all wholesale. The leaders that emerge from this aspect can be the ones with the greatest compassion and the least spin. You may wind up living your dreams-- if you can also do the work that's required and make a realistic bargain with reality.

As Saturn and Neptune slowly approach the opposition phase of their relationship, questions to ask yourself are: does society's opinions and preferences limit your creative or spiritual expression? Do you give and share because you are inspired or because you feel obligated? Is guilt a motivating force in your life? If your authority is challenged, do you cave in and keep giving, even when you KNOW you are over your limit? Do you work slavishly because someone is guilt-tripping you into it? Have you lost faith in people, or in your own ability to stand up for yourself? Perhaps you are working for a higher purpose and don't mind the lack of respect or appreciation for your effort.

The Saturn-Neptune opposition can work the other way around as well. Perhaps you are so involved in your status or position that you are willing to scorn anyone who is still in touch with their creative power or shows any emotional vulnerability. After all, she's "not all that". Resentment can build some ugly scar tissue that can start to effect every facet of your life, mostly making you more unhappy and escapist than inspired and engaging. Instead of mistrusting and resenting, perhaps it is time to respect and honor the creative and spiritual work of yourself AND others, to respect the limits of yourself AND others, to ask and not demand, and to accept that your own expectations and lack of clarity can form images that may NOT have anything to do with reality. Yet, maintaining your illusions, despite evidence to the contrary, can keep you in an imaginary world, moving you farther away from real understanding and compromise. If you want the support of others, do you offer your support or do you try to tear people down every chance you get? Do you get the support you need by projecting a false image, by suggesting guilt, or by using your authority to take more than you deserve?

Saturn quincunx Neptune. 2003-2004 can indicate a time when many people experience major financial and personal losses. September may not be the best month to ask for a raise, get a new job, or start an important new project, and if there are any potential problems in your workplace, you may want to try to resolve them before September 5th when Saturn is exactly quincunx Neptune. This is a time when strange, nebulous feelings you can't even identify can creep in an erode your resolve. Even if you've been working hard towards your goals, your goals can suddenly lose their meaning or start to seem like an impossible dream. Life can be very emotional and unsettling now, and it can be all you can do just to stay centered and keep your cool.

Saturn's quincunx to Neptune doesn't end there. Since the Sun and then Venus sextile Saturn in early September, they form a Yod to Neptune. Life can seem out of focus. If you have been feeling especially psychic and inspired, but also persecuted, doubtful, or uncomfortably apprehensive, you may be feeling the effects of this irritating Yod that always seems to disturb your inner peace. It does this by demanding you deal with your responsibilities-- at exactly the wrong times. Or can make you too filled with self-doubt to be productive, causing you to veer off into escapist trances instead of pushing on. OR-- you can be so numb to all the turmoil of the world that you feel completely removed and transcendant. This may be a spiritual way to live, but may be inspired by emotional overload. The more you deny outside influences now, the more out of proportion or even terrifying they can become.

You may have a choice now. Will you settle for reality as is, with all its flaws and imperfections, or will you continue to pursue your ideal of perfection, no matter how impossible. Pursuing unrealistic dreams can keep you in a perpetual state of seeking inspiration without ever getting anywhere or doing anything with it because nothing is ever as good as the dream version. Although you may need to take some chances to believe in yourself or manifest your ideals, not to do it is to deny your ability to heal, inspire, or share your heart. But if you take your inner doubts and uncertainties out into the world, you can magnify your vulnerabilities and attract exactly what you are trying to avoid, potentially making you a martyr for your cause.

Not only did the Chiron-Saturn opposition influence Fall 2003-- CHIRON OPPOSES SATURN IS IN EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 2006!!!. This is one of those long-term aspects that, due to retrogradation, keep happening. This year Chiron and Saturn will exactly oppose 2 times -- September 25 and October 24. What makes this opposition even more difficult is the way it impacts the Fall Chart and the USA chart. Whatever Ascendant you use for the USA Chart, Saturn is conjunct the USA Sun and approaching a square to its own position, while Chiron is opposing Saturn and square natal Saturn. And that's not all. This is heavily impacting the chart of George W. Bush, as Saturn will station while conjunct his Sun.

Why is all this a problem? This is a signal of a bad economy as expectations come in line with reality. Chiron opposing Saturn can effect the way you earn a living. You may have a growing desire to go into business for yourself, but whether you work for a large corporation or yourself, you will have to play strictly by the rules now. Getting and keeping new jobs won't be easy and clients/management can see your faults more clearly than your talents and judge you more harshly than you deserve-- especially if you are hoping for more than the world can realistically provide. This is not a time when you will be able to find yourself by pursuing a profession or career. It's not an easy time to *make it your way* and if it seems like no one cares if you succeed or fail-- you're right, they don't, and many people will take offense at the pursuit of self-fulfillment. If your career hopes and dreams are not in line with reality, you may not be supported financially and you may be in for more conflict and tough economic times ahead.
