Astrological Midpoints

History of Midpoint Combinations

What is a Midpoint?

The use of midpoints historically goes back to 1200 AD when Guido Bonati, a famous Italian Astrologer, used half sums, otherwise known as midpoints, in his interpretation of a chart. More recently at the turn of the century, Alan Leo, a famous American Astrologer, used midpoints along with solar arc directions. I personally have no knowledge of the use of midpoints combined with the 90-degree dial prior to its use by Rhinehold Ebertin and Alfred Whitte at the beginning of the Nineteen Hundreds. The history of solar arcs on the other hand, goes back to Ptolemy who used primary directions in the second century.

A midpoint is the center between any two points, which in Astrology relates to the center between two planets and/or personal points, including the Midheaven, Ascendant, and the Nodes. This center point is the meeting of planetary energies that becomes active through the process of growth, relating to the passage of time. We relate to the aspects formed by the heavenly bodies through spatial relationship. This system as I mentioned earlier goes back to Rhinehold Ebertin who, near the turn of the century developed this system along with Alfred Whitte by taking a 360-degree wheel and breaking it down into a 90-degree dial. Ebertin believed that hard aspects created events in one's life thus; the use of the 90-degree dial became a viable tool for forecasting future events. Ebertin started by placing the planets into three sections -- 30 degrees for Cardinal Positions which include: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn points; 30 degrees for Fixed Positions which include: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius points; and 30 degrees for Mutable Positions which include: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces points.

This system can be seen on the 90 degree dial as 0 to 30 degrees as Cardinal, 30 to 60 degrees Fixed and 60 to 90 degrees as Mutable positions for the planetary points to be placed in accordance of their quality.

How to Use this System

This system can be used to add great insight into the interpretations of the natal chart through the use of delineation of transits, progressions, solar arcs and degree arcs. In fact it can be used in almost any interpretive form of astrology where timing is added into the equation. Timing is where this type of Astrology becomes very precise and accurate. The best way to use this system is to incorporate the natal midpoint along with the time that its energy becomes activated by directing the planets into the future. This is done by Solar Arc, which is the distance it takes for the Sun to move from one day to the next at the time of oneÕs birth, which is approximately 59Õ to 1 degree 2Õ, which is then added to the age in question. We can also use degree arcs, known as age arcs, which is equivalent to one degree equals one year, times the number of years old you are now and/or when the specific event in question occurred. It may sound difficult, but itÕs not once you become familiar with this system of delineation. When using this tool you will notice that I have included health interpretations along with dietary issues, which often come up when there is a lack of good nutrition or assimilation of nutrients. This can be seen easily through the activation of the natal midpoints on the 90-degree dial. Thus, I included medical interpretations in most of the midpoint structures.

Each midpoint structure has many meanings, so I have narrowed it down to the most important interpretation of each of them based upon my years of past experience. These interpretations are done in the higher and lower, or shadow manifestations. We are all on the earth plane of existence, thus no matter how enlightened we may seem, we still have to deal with our shadow. Many midpoints include births, health areas and transitions and only a part of what is said may apply to you personally. But on the other hand the whole interpretation may apply. I have included the positive and negative side of each of these midpoints so as to reach all probable outcomes.

Many times there will be others who are read through oneÕs personal chart, since these people become the players in oneÕs personal movie. These players include midpoints with:

Your Birth Chart: Midpoint Combinations

The natal midpoints represent our birth traits, our strengths, weaknesses and potential for personal growth. Each midpoint could involve others who are part of our lifeÕs path. Thus, a natal midpoint may apply to family and friends as opposed to the energy being directed to the self. Likewise, the medical influences and health issues mentioned are often manifest by others in our lives as opposed to the self. The possible medical problems, as well as the "shadow side" of a midpoint may never become an active manifestation of the midpoint's energy when addressed early. Keep an open mind when reading the interpretations of a midpoint since they are geared to both the higher and lower manifestations of the energy, and be aware that medical references should not be treated as a diagnosis. Psychological or physical symptoms or problems should be directed to the appropriate professional for diagnosis and evaluation. The timing of the events indicated by these natal midpoints are activated by progressions, directions and finally transits as the final touch off point sometime in the future.

Moon=Midheaven (The Matriarch) Natal

The Moon combined with the MC relates to the woman at the top, or the woman who is in control of a business, who is in a position of power. Sometimes people move to advance in their careers and/or run the family business. One has the ability to reach the top and have many opportunities that arise along the way; also there may be popularity. One may be very much in demand, or have lots of exposure in the public eye, since thereÕs great advancement life. This relates to the dominant parent, the one who makes the decisions. It rules over the capacity to be the executive, the one in charge of making the main decisions for others. There can be many life changes, which lead to more personal power and/or the changing of one's life objectives. Many times people make their home into a business, thus working out of the home. One also has the ability to have great sensitivity and emotional response to the needs of others; thus, this relates to the psychologist and/or counselor. Many homebuilders and/or people working in the food industry have this.

Sun=Mars/Saturn Natal

The person who identifies with power, restrictive power, or controlled energy -- energy that is controlled by another -- is a manifestation of this energy. ThereÕs the capacity to be the source of energy that is being used to control something and/or someone, or there may be a parent who is controlling or a boss who restricts oneÕs personal actions or activities. Thus, there can be a snapping back and/or trying to return the negative energy back to its source. One may have physical strength due to feeling more the warrior and/or needing to take the warrior pose, thus having athletic abilities. At its strongest, a superior athlete is born. Usually one could be the center of attention and known for his or her constructive use of energy, thus being identified as a builder of many different types of structures. There can also be a parent who has circulatory issues. The most important lesson this energy has to offer is to become more responsible for oneÕs personal actions and be able to respond on time thus tai chi would be a good form of meditation in motion to help balance out one's energy.

Sun=Mars/Node Natal

That which connects us to others on a positive energetic level is a manifestation of this. It relates to the man in a woman's life, or meeting a man whom one has a strong attraction to that could later lead to marriage. There may be connecting with groups that work on the physical level, such as a group of body builders or joining a gym. This could also connect one with a group of bikers or mountain climbers, or any group that deals with improving the physical body.

Sun=Pluto/Ascendant Natal

This is a very transformational influence, which gives the ability to transform one's body and make it into a strong lean fighting machine, thus one has the desire to be strong and fit. One can have very intense eyes and can hypnotize with their stare. This relates to surgery, thus it's great for plastic surgery or having something removed. On the negative side of this energy, one can take on a new identity, sometimes not by choice, as in adoption or through abuse from another. This also represents people transitioning to another state of awareness.

Mercury=Venus/Ascendant Natal

There is the capacity to have beautiful communications with others, along with the ability to communicate in a balanced, sensitive way. Thus, making one a good listener with the capacity to hear what someone else is saying. This also relates to having beautiful hands and using them in expressive communications with others, for instance, one may be able to speak in sign language.

Mercury=Jupiter (The Philosopher) Natal

With this, thereÕs an ability to think with greatness and have ease with communicating belief systems and philosophy to others. There is the desire to seek out or to see other cultures so as to learn more about them, along with a love of travel to foreign lands. Good news comes easily as one has an eternally optimistic disposition. There can also be pleasant communication with others on a regular basis, as well as having a sibling who has the potential to become very successful. One has the capacity to discuss religion and philosophical issues along with the desire to pursue higher education, thus, becoming a philosopher in addition to being a perpetual student. There is also a love for the grandparents and having a similar philosophy on life as they do. OneÕs ideas and concepts are usually received easily by others and can even become a point of reference or quoted by others in the future. There is also the ability to be a novelist and/or it's a time to have a book published, thus, this relates to publishers. People who are successful in sales carry this energy and are usually at the top of their group in output. Medically, this rules asthma or difficulty in the breathing processes, and it also gives large hands, fingers, or limbs.

Venus=Sun/Pluto Natal

Being in love with someone who has the capacity for great passion is a reflection of this energy, and there is usually the desire to marry forever, merging with the beloved. This relates to corporate mergers, buyouts, and the merging of multiple businesses to combine large sums of money and resources to form a mega corporation. Many times this relates to endings within a relationship and/or divorces where there is a financial battle, and/or the potential loss of the mate through transitions. This is also a time where one can get large sums of money from a bank and/or investor, allowing one to pursue their creative desires. People with this have the potential to alter their appearance in order to become the object of affection and allurement, such as an exotic dancer. Venus=Mars/Ascendant Natal

This is a sensual influence, giving an alluring quality and/or to the person one is attracted to. It connects one to a mate and/or engagement or marriage. This relates to the healthy person who has a healthy sexual expression and is well known for being sexy or alluring. Thus, this is a procreative influence denoting a child who could be conceived now.

Mars=Moon/Jupiter Natal

The ability to assert and share one's beliefs and philosophy is a manifestation of this. It can also result in anger, which comes from irrational beliefs, but on the positive side there's a desire to seek out knowledge and the truth. There can also be legal matters that surround one's beliefs, philosophy or contractual agreements. Many long distance runners have this energy, and there is a love of sports. There can also be a purchase of property or moving into a larger new home.

ThereÕs an ability to speak oneÕs mind with clarity and intent, though one has the tendency to say something before thinking about it. There can be many male friendships made now which are unique, each person different in their approach to life. One may also have the potential for one-night stands. This also represents an exciting, creative phase in one's life where self-expression is very important. There can be an unpredictable and entertaining lover with no barriers and freedom in sexual response. On the mundane level, this is a great time to purchase a new car. Be careful not to have an unexpected pregnancy as this enegy can represent a new baby.

Mars=Jupiter/Midheaven Natal

Making a big decision or being involved in legal matters is a manifestation of this energy. ThereÕs cooperation from others and teamwork now. One can be attracted to someone who is more of the physical, well-endowed type with lots of sex appeal. This also relates to the pioneering of new ideas in the work place, thus having a positive influence on one's career.

When Saturn combines with Neptune there is the decay of the old and the rebuilding of new structures, thus there is a bridging of one consciousness to another. During the last Saturn Neptune conjunction (1989), there were many bridges that collapsed and had to be rebuilt. One has the ability to go into a dreamtime state of reality and become a channel for information on other levels of consciousness. The highest manifestation of this energy is represented by a spiritual teacher who has great wisdom, developed over a period of lifetimes, to share with humanity. On the other side, there can be problems within one's work or partnerships due to fraud or deceit. There is also a tendency to dissolve dreams, causing a feeling of great depression which could result in substance abuse or drug poisoning; this can also affect the father in all of the above issues. There can be a lack of timing and or a feeling of not being in touch with reality. It's also present with alcoholism and drug abuse, which is of a habitual nature.

Uranus=Mercury/Neptune Natal

Having higher awareness and being connected to others on a spiritual level is a manifestation of this energy. There can be bonding with friends who are on the spiritual path, thus there can be life-altering changes. On the negative side, there can be acts of terrorism which can happen without any foreknowledge. On the more positive side, it can give one psychic or clairvoyant gifts.

Things that have been working successfully in the past finally break down, or a business needs new energy put back into it to make it run again. It is usually present in the charts of athletes and/or people interested in bodybuilding, it gives great strength and creates a healthy body. This relates to elimination and/or cutting something out of the life, which can sometimes be through drastic means or brute force. On the reverse side it rules vengeful acts, rape in all of its different facets, births and deaths. It's also present in the charts of healers who have the power to recreate a healthy mind/body relationship.

Node=Moon/Uranus Natal

An association with an unusual woman and/or connecting with groups whose main goal is the process of change relates to this energy. This denotes people who connect in order to advance knowledge on the planet. There can sudden or unexpected births in the family and/or one may have a C-Section birth. The visual of this might be a group of people studying together, like a group of astrologers dedicated to enlightening others through sharing of their knowledge.

Node=Uranus/Midheaven Natal

Active Midpoints: Feb 01, 2007 to Feb 01, 2008

When interpreting the active midpoints one should keep in mind that the strongest midpoint is the one that is activating a natal midpoint. Thus if your natal midpoint has been activated by transit or progression/direction, then the possibility of the events happening are much stronger. The transits to that natal midpoint seem to be the final timer on an event, which could be indicated in the birth chart. These interpretations address not only what could likely happen for the self but also for others. These midpoints also relate to medical issues, which could be for the self and or others around you. Many times these interpretations medically will have already been addressed, since one may have been working on their personal habits long before, thus arresting any ill effects from the midpoint. The activation of midpoints can happen as early as 1 degree or the equivalent of one year ahead of the exact hit, thus itÕs good to really look ahead at the energy being activated (by directed planets especially) during the coming year. The active midpoints look at our potential for personal growt, act as a guide for our future and can be used as an adjunct to the usual techniques of interpretive astrology.

One may want to sign a legal contract or agreement now, since it can go in oneÕs favor as it also relates to a male order of religious group or pious people like priests.
